Assalamu’alaikum wr. wb.
The Geological Engineering Program at ITB is one of the oldest programs in Indonesia. In 1950, Theodorus Henricus Franciscus Klompe founded the Geology and Mining department at the Faculty of Science, UI Bandung, as the precursor to the Geological Engineering Program at ITB. For more than seventy years, the Geological Engineering Program at ITB has produced geologists who have contributed to the history and development of Indonesia. As of 2023, we have successfully documented approximately 1600 alumni working in various fields such as petroleum geology, economic geology, geothermal, geotechnical, hydrogeology, geoscience, entrepreneurship, research, and others, both within and outside Indonesia.
Assalamu’alaikum wr. wb.
I am honored to welcome you to the Master and Doctoral of Geological Engineering Study Program at the Institut Teknologi Bandung. As the head of this program, I would like to share with you some of the exciting research and teaching activities that we are engaged in.
Master & Doctoral of Geological Engineering Study Program is a multidisciplinary field that applies the principles of geology, and engineering to solve complex problems related to the Earth and its resources. Our study program offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers topics such as rock mechanics, hydrogeology, geothermal energy, mineral exploration, environmental geology, natural hazards, and geospatial analysis. We also have state-of-the-art facilities and equipment that enable our students and faculty to conduct cutting-edge research in various areas of geological engineering.
The Geology Engineering Study Program at ITB has a significant historical connection to the development of geological education in Indonesia, tracing back to the Dutch occupation. Established in 1950 by Professor Theodorus Henricus Franciscus Klompe, the department has been a key player in shaping the history of geology in Indonesia. Over the years, it evolved through organizational changes, mergers, and reorganizations, eventually becoming part of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Mineral Technology (FIKTM) in 1999. The department, accredited with a grade “A” since 1998, continues to be the largest Earth Science department in Indonesia, producing highly skilled graduates and contributing to the advancement of geological knowledge and education in the country.
