S2 – Curriculum

Curriculum

The Master Study Program in Geological Engineering is under the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Technologies (FEST), which oriented towards academic education with the competence to create and renew/originality in research/research-based science, knowledge, and technology. The research referred to follows 5 tracks, namely:

  1. Geoscience
  2. Petroleum Geology
  3. Engineering Geology
  4. Economic Geology
  5. Volcanology and Geothermal

We define geology as being broadly classified into three major groups:

  • Basic Geology Sciences: Petrology, Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, Structural Geology, Paleontology, and Geomorphology.
  • Geological Methods: Exploration Geochemistry, Exploration Geophysics, Remote Sensing, Field Geology, Subsurface Geology, Marine Geology, Geostatistics, and Geocomputation.
  • Geological Applications: Basically, it is the utilization of geological knowledge for the benefit of human life on Earth. Currently, there are three prominent groups with:
  1. Skills in applying geological concepts in the search and development of oil and gas resources through surface geological mapping and creating subsurface geological models with the help of computer software.
  2. Skills in applying geological concepts in the exploration of mineral and geothermal resources through remote sensing of surface geology and creating subsurface geological models for mineral and geothermal systems with the help of computer software.
  3. Skills in finding surface and subsurface water sources by mapping surface and subsurface geology to determine aquifer zones. Skills in applying geological concepts to estimate the stability of regions and the engineering properties of rocks through rock strength mapping.

The Master Study Program curriculum is held on 4 (four) semesters with a minimum credit is 36 credits. The Master Study Program students the choice to determine the composition of the subject groups according to their track choices.

The Master Program in Geological Engineering offers various elective courses for students to pursue their specific interests.
